Showing up as I am
Fill in the blank. Yoga. Singing. Public Speaking. There are an infinite number of ways that make one's identity unique and special. From the past, present and to the future, every fractal of our life creates an experience worthy to be celebrated. In February, we celebrate the history and experience of what it means to be a Black American. This project was in response to an RFP for Creative Theory Agency's 2023 BHM campaign to foster a renewed sense of being unapologetically Black and empower Black Americans.
the building blocks
Each person is colorful and unique in their own way and should be bold and proud of each part of themselves. This approach uses a variety of saturated and expressive colors to represent this aspect as well as pops of patterns and fun, geometric shapes as a nod to another major player in one's identity, the past.
This same concept is reflected in the type, focusing on simple shapes in a way that reflects African writing systems.
CElebrate good times
A unique aspect of this project was the possibility of a collaboration with Soho House as a way to extend the reach of the campaign to other metropolitan cities other than D.C. These designs were created as possible advertisement outreaches whether that be a post on instagram or an old-fashioned, eye-catching post card in the mail.
A MOdern Day Guide
One of the proposed deliverables was to create a modern version of the Green Book. Originally a guide to finding black-and-brown-friendly businesses while traveling, this modern day approach is Soho House's way to further create a "Home Away from Home". And what better way to feel at home than to learn all about local businesses and landmarks in the area? This small pocket guide could be placed inside different Soho House locations with unique books for each proposed city.
